So I’ve learned some interesting things this week, and I’m going to share them with you. I’ve learned some things about myself, my friends, and general healthy living. Ready?
First, this week I tried getting up early to go to the Y before school. I assumed I would totally hate myself in the morning, but I was so wrong. I’m not exactly a morning person, and meeting my friend at 5:30 sounded like a fate worse than death. However, once I got there, I loved the feeling of accomplishment I had for the discipline I had to get up and do it. I also left the Y feeling on top of the world and was more focused at school than I think I have ever been in my life. It put me in a great mood. I’m going again tomorrow morning because I liked it so much. So the lesson I learned? Try new things. You might like it.
Second, when I went to the Y at 5:30, I met my friend Katie there. Now, I already know Katie is one of the best friends I’ve ever had, but she really showed me that this week. As I got up to get ready (seriously considering getting back in bed) I got a text from her saying “We can do this!” I immediately felt a boost of confidence. And when I got to the Y and we went through our workout together, I realized that her encouragement and humor are exactly what a person needs to power through an early morning workout. Lesson #2: Good friends encourage you and build you up. Surround yourself with positive people.
Lastly, this weekend I went to Champaign with my boyfriend and he took me to Olive Garden. (I know, sometimes he’s pretty okay) And even though it’s pretty much my favorite place to eat and I felt like I was in heaven, the breadsticks I ate ended up giving me a not-so-heavenly stomach ache the next day. The Breadstick Lesson: If you haven’t been eating bread and you want to splurge a little, make sure you don’t eat five Olive Garden breadsticks in one night. Remember this and your stomach will thank you later.
I hope you enjoyed the life lessons I learned this week! Drink your water and avoid breadsticks.
