As a nurse for six years, Susan Lock has found her life’s passion in the birthing process and that passion inspired her to pursue a career in midwifery.

Lock is the first Nurse Midwife at Sarah Bush Lincoln Women’s Healthcare. She works alongside OB-Gyns Michael Benson, DO, Rick Miller, DO, Scott Meyer, MD, Mel Fleming, MD, Nicole Wochner, RNC, APN-BC and Leslie Taggart, APN, FNP-BC.

Lock has been an employee of Sarah Bush Lincoln since 2008, serving as a registered nurse in the Women and Children’s Center.

“I want to connect with the women that come into our office and be a resource for them throughout their pregnancy, in an overall effort to make it a more fulfilling experience,” Lock said. Her goal is to provide additional education to the women she cares for, so they are more prepared for the birthing process.

Lock completed the Nurse Midwifery Program through the University of Illinois Chicago and will begin seeing women at the end of September Lock for primary obstetrics care.

“A woman’s body goes through incredible changes during pregnancy and it is important that women understand the changes and be the healthiest they can be during this time, to benefit their baby,” Lock said.

“I believe that my experience as a nurse in the Women and Children’s Center helps me better understand what women need, so I can address their concerns and provide the highest quality of care possible,” Lock said.
