Clinical Significance
Used to determine the presence of (D) positive fetal cells in the maternal circulation.
Every Rh-negative (weak D negative) mother who delivers or aborts a fetus after twelve weeks gestation, must have a qualitative screen by agglutination performed to determine the presence of (D) positive fetal cells in the maternal circulation. If the newborn types (Weak D) positive, the Fetal Maternal Bleed Quantitation Method must be performed.
