Type

Thin Prep (White Cap) collection kit -- Rinse the Cytobrush thoroughly in the solution and then discard the Cytobrush. A Digene swab test kit should also be submitted for the HPV testing. OR Surepath (Blue Cap) collection kit -- Cytobrush must remain in the solution. A Digene swab test kit must also be submitted for the HPV testing.

Clinical Significance

The Pap Test is used preventively to screen for gynecologic cancer or other conditions that precede cancer, such as dysplasia. It aids in establishing the diagnosis of primary or metastatic neoplasms; intraepithelial lesions (dysplasia); human papillomavirus (HPV); and inflammatory agents (herpes virus, fungi, Trichomonas vaginalis, Actinomyces, Candida, bacteria).
