Western blot assay for HSP70 (68 kDa), IgG antibody may be utilized in predicting corticosteroid responsiveness in patients with idiopathic rapidly progressive sensorineural hearing loss. Indeterminate results should be repeated using a fresh specimen collected after 10-14 days. Other autoimmune diseases may also produce positive results.
