Differentiation of a variety of hematological disorders.

Leukocyte alkaline phosphatase activity is restricted to the cytoplasm of mature and band-form granulocytes.Low or absent LAP scores are associated with chronic myelocytic leukemia (Philadelphia chromosome-positive), PNH, hereditary hypophosphatasia, ITP, and acute myelocytic and acute monocytic leukemias.Elevated LAP scores are associated with polycythemia vera, idiopathic myelofibrosis, primary thrombocythemia, Hodgkin’s disease, acute inflammatory response or leukemoid reactions, and stress.
