Clinical Significance

Monitor Keppra concentrations in patients taking the drug.

Keppra (Levetiracetam)is a new antiepileptic drug structurally unrelated to other AEDs used as an add-on drug for epileptic patients with partial-onset seizures. Keppra is rapidly and almost completely absorbed following oral administration. The metabolism of Keppra is minimal and not dependent on the hepatic cytochrome P450 enzyme system, indicating that clinically significant drug interactions are unlikely.
