My name is Allie Betts and I’m pretty much your typical high school student. I’m busy all the time (Drama Club, Scholastic Bowl, Key Club, Student Council, BIONIC Team, French Club, Jazz Choir…you get the picture) and with all my activities plus the HUMONGOUS amount of homework that accompanies junior year, I sometimes find it hard to make time for myself and my health.
So, I’ve decided to participate in the new program Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center is starting at MHS- Fresh Start. To help myself maintain a healthy blood sugar level, a healthy weight, and become more physically fit I’ll be going to the Y three times a week, avoiding sweets and snack foods, and making sure I drink plenty of water.
Although I’ll have to schedule time to go work out between Fall Play rehearsals, Powder Puff Football practices, and my large amount of meetings for every club under the sun- I’ve decided this is the time I should begin developing healthy routines so that when I head off to college I’ll already have healthy habits formed! I’m making my health a priority in my life because I know it’ll take a backseat to learning lines and choosing Homecoming decorations if I don’t.
I’ll be using this blog to post updates and pictures on my progress, show you what types of healthy alternatives you can choose for lunch, (to all my peers: tater tots are SO not a vegetable), and share some of the hilarity that teenagers like me experience on a daily basis.
As I wrap this up, I’m checking the clock so I’m not late to Powder Puff practice- the hectic bustle of the school day doesn’t end once the last bell rings! I look forward to being able to share my journey with you through this blog, and I’m blessed to have this opportunity.
