Emergency Medical Services
Mattoon
Prehospital RN is designed to assist experienced nurses with transitioning into the prehospital environment. The course includes introduction to emergency services, ambulance operations, prehospital pharmacology, assessment and clinical decision making. The course work is done in class over five weeks, and the student must complete a field internship with an advanced life support unit, as well as PALS, ACLS, BLS and ITLS or their equivalent (TNCC, PHTLS, PEPP, etc). A rotation for surgery is also included to assist with learning airway management techniques and intubation. Sarah Bush Lincoln is dedicated to supporting our rural and local EMS community and this course is often very helpful for nurses who live in rural areas in which on-call personnel for 24/7 coverage is lacking. PHRNs are used in Region 6 and SBL’s EMS system to supplement a shortage of paramedics in those communities. The participant is responsible for all clinical time, operating room time, and field internship time prior to completion of the course and issuance of licensure. *RNs who complete the course, must hold a current Illinois RN license, as well as ACLS, PALS, and ITLS or their equivalent, and hold a current HCP CPR card. 2014 schedule Provider Course: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays, from June 30 through July 28, 2014, five weeks. Continuing Education Course: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays. You may attend any of the sessions.
