Sarah Bush Lincoln is pleased to announce the addition of Nurse Practitioner Andrew McDevitt, FNP, to the medical team at the SBL Ranchero Clinic.
McDevitt looks forward working with people to improve all aspects of their health as a primary care provider. However, he is especially excited about helping people achieve better health through SBL’s weight management program. He will also be providing support to those seeking bariatric services through the Health Center’s partnership with Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
“I’m looking forward to helping people deal with the biggest health crisis in our nation, obesity,” McDevitt said. “Through the tools now at our disposal, we are able to implement a multifaceted treatment plan to counteract obesity and its related chronic conditions. The methods range from providing education, diet and exercise recommendations to medications and even surgical procedures. Through our medical weight management program, I truly believe that I can make a positive impact on the lives of our patients.”
A native of Mattoon, McDevitt earned an associate’s in science in pre-nursing from Lake Land College in 2013 and a bachelor of science in nursing from Lakeview College of Nursing in 2016. He completed a master of science in nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Chamberlain University in 2019, when he also became board certified as a nurse practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
McDevitt has worked in various roles at Sarah Bush Lincoln for the past nine years, starting as a registration clerk in the Emergency Department and then a wellness assistant at the Center for Healthy Living after it opened in 2014. He later worked as a nurse on various floors upon receiving his nursing degree.
McDevitt said he ultimately chose to become a nurse practitioner to make a positive impact on people’s lives. “I love to work with people. I enjoying talking, sharing stories and ultimately helping people and I realized that a position as a nurse practitioner was a great avenue to do just that,” he said.
