SBL to Build Charleston Walk-in Clinic

March 18, 2013 1:50 p.m.

Sarah Bush Lincoln will begin construction on a Walk-in Clinic on the eastside of Charleston following a groundbreaking on March 21.

The new clinic will feature 3,500 square feet and X-ray and laboratory services, and is expected to open in early fall. It will be situated on two acres in the Charleston Commons Shopping Center in front of Maurices, Hibbetts Sports, QQ Buffet, and Dollar Tree.

Similar to the Mattoon Walk-in Clinic, the clinic will be open seven days a week. Experienced certified physician assistant Stacia Cheadle and Advanced Practice Nurse Kelly Bryant will provide care at the clinic.

Sarah Bush Lincoln Vice President System Practices Jerry Esker explained that the volume at the Walk-in Clinic in Mattoon has far surpassed expectations and through further examination, learned that each month, more than 250 people who live in Charleston and east of Charleston visit the Mattoon Walk-in Clinic for care. “This is an opportunity for us to better service the Charleston-area community while relieving some of the volume in the Mattoon clinic.”

He added that the Charleston Walk-in Clinic will face Illinois Route 16 and be surrounded with ample parking. “We’ve already been very fortunate to recruit medical staff for the facility who have experience working at walk-in clinics. Kelly Bryant and Stacia Cheadle will do an excellent job for us as we get this facility up and running,” Esker said.

Drake Construction of Charleston was awarded the contract. Russell Waldschmidt and Gregory Stone donated the land to Sarah Bush Lincoln.
