Sarah Bush Lincoln Offers Childbirth and Baby Care Classes in July

Oh, Baby!, Sarah Bush Lincoln’s childbirth and infant care education program, is offering several childbirth and baby care classes for expectant parents in July. All classes will be held in the Lumpkin Family Center for Health Education at Sarah Bush Lincoln.

Oh, Baby!, Five Week Comprehensive Prepared Childbirth Class will begin a new weekly session on Wednesday, July 11. The class will be held from 7 to 9:15 pm in the Lumpkin Family Center for Health Education at Sarah Bush Lincoln and will continue weekly through August 8.

Oh, Baby! XTREME! all day childbirth preparation class will be offered from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday, July 21 in the Lumpkin Family Center for Health Education at Sarah Bush Lincoln. Expectant parents may choose to attend the weekly session or the all day XTREME! session. Additional dates are available for both class sessions.

The fee is $60 for either session for the expectant mother and birth partner and includes the class sessions and materials. However, no one is turned away for the lack of ability to pay. Additional childbirth classes are also offered in July.

Feed Me, I’m Yours! Breastfeeding Class will be held from 7 to 9:15 pm Friday, July 13. This free class is a must for those expectant mothers who wish to breastfeed, and for expectant mothers who have breastfed before, but without success. Birth partners are strongly encouraged to attend, as well as any other supportive family members and friends. This class is free of charge.

Infant Child CPR will be held from 7 to 9 pm on Friday, July 13. During this class, American Heart Association-certified instructor Debbie Bathe provides essential information needed to save a child’s life if an accident or medical emergency occurs. The fee is $10 for mother and birth partner and $5 for each additional person.

Bootie Kamp – Essential Information for You and Your Baby will be held from 1 to 3:15 pm Sunday, July 22. This free class will provide information on how SBL cares for your infant at the Women and Children’s Center, newborn care after you go home, newborn conditions, important products to have after delivery and plenty of entertainment. Grandparents are welcome and encouraged to attend, and all expectant grandmas get a free Grandma Pack.

Happiest Baby on the Block will be held from 7 to 8:30 pm on Friday, July 27. This class teaches parents how to quickly calm fussy babies using techniques designed by nationally known Pediatrician Harvey Karp, MD. The course is $30 per couple, and includes The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD and the accompanying white noise CD. The course is designed for expectant parents and parents of newborns. Grandparents and other family members are welcome to attend.

Big Brother, Big Sister Pajama Party Sibling Class will be held from 7 to 8 pm Friday, July 27. This is an excellent course to prepare siblings for a new baby in the house. Children are encouraged to come in pajamas with one pillow, one blanket and a baby doll, teddy bear or other stuffed toy to practice holding a baby. Children must be accompanied by a parent. This class is free of charge.
