SBL Presents at Johns Hopkins Symposium

October 9, 2013 2:07 p.m.

Sarah Bush Lincoln leaders presented information on how the hospital achieved the 90th percentile on patient experience scores during a national symposium at Johns Hopkins recently.

Adult Care nursing leaders Sandy Miller, RN, and Mindi O’Rourke, RN, and Pharmacist Matt Clifton, RPh, were invited to share “best practices” at the annual symposium based of the high patient experience scores at Sarah Bush Lincoln.

Through random patient surveys, the Sarah Bush Lincoln inpatient-nursing unit ranked at the 90th percentile nationwide. Individual areas that comprise that score include Communication with Nurses (96th percentile), Communication about Medications (95th percentile), Communication with Physicians (94th percentile), Responsiveness to Needs (94th percentile), and Discharge Information (92nd percentile).

Miller said, “It was quite an honor to be invited to present at this prestigious conference. Since we began our Excellence A Way of Life journey seven years ago, we have made steady progress in improving the care to our patients, creating a more warm and welcoming healing environment. This helps our patients feel secure and confident in their care.”

Sarah Bush Lincoln uses HealthStream to perform the random telephone surveys and collect patient’s feelings about the care they receive. The information is reported nationally and is available at www.sarahbush.org.
