Community Dental Health Fair Offers School Dental Exams

August 1, 2012 9:51 a.m.

Parents and children are invited to a Community Dental Health Fair, sponsored by Sarah Bush Lincoln Dental Services and Seventh Day Adventist Church, from 4:30 to 7:30 pm Tuesday, August 7, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2120 DeWitt Ave., Mattoon.

The event is free and open to the public. “Educational games and tooth-friendly snacks will be featured in a fun atmosphere!” stated Oral Health Educator Loraine Horsley. Its goal is to educate both parents and children and to promote good dental health. Back-to-school dental exams will be offered at no charge during the health fair.

Exams will also be offered to mothers who are of child-bearing age who qualify for Medicaid and/or W.I.C. and do not have private dental insurance. Sarah Bush Lincoln Dental Program is a collaborative community effort and provides dental care at no cost to families who qualify. The services offered include dental exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, and dental sealants. The program also provides restorative dental care and oral health education to students and their families in a nine-county service area.

SBL Dental Services provides oral health education to approximately 12,000 children in the schools each year and helps approximately 800 people annually. Last year alone, the program’s dentists performed more than 2,000 procedures at no cost to their patients.
