SBL Nurses Awarded Scholarships During Annual Reception

Sarah Bush Lincoln recently honored several of its nurses during the SBL Health Foundation’s annual endowed nursing scholarship reception. Scholarships were awarded for the continuing education of nurses who have displayed outstanding compassion and concern for their patients during the past year.

The following scholarships were awarded:

Li-Shiang Chang Award – The grandchildren of Li-Shiang Chang established this award because of the wonderful care he received in the Critical Care Unit, and is awarded annually to a CCU nurse. This year two recipients were selected: Shannon Niebrugge, RN and Erika Swango, RN.

Mildred Seidel Perry Award –Keith Perry established this award to honor his mother’s nursing career, which spanned six decades. This year three recipients were selected: Jamie Easton, RN, Ciara Hayes, RN and Kelly Wheeler, RN.

Dr. John Jemsek Award – This award was established by fellow physicians honoring the career of Dr. Jemsek, who practiced for more than 50 years. This year’s winner is Ashley Vincent, RN.

Junie Longcor Award –Junie’s family, Gary and Deb Longcor, established this award in honor of the care she received in the Regional Cancer Center during her cancer battle. It is awarded annually to a Regional Cancer Center staff member. This year the recipient is Rachel Clark, RN.

Dr. James Van Popering/Gastroenterology Award – Dr. Van Popering, formerly a gastroenterologist at SBL, created this award for the purpose of education and/or certification of a gastroenterology nurse. Two recipients were selected: Lisa Limes, RN, and Jennifer Zerrusen, RN, Special Procedures.
