Leading up to what would have been his mom’s 91st birthday on August 11, Tom Bariether of Mattoon made another generous donation to the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Foundation to benefit the Regional Cancer Center, all in her name—Celia Bariether.
“My parents—Hezzy and Celia— were special people and since they’re no longer with us, I make donations in their memory on special occasions,” Tom said. “It’s the perfect way to honor our loved ones while helping those battling cancer—something my mom had to do.”
Tom also made donations in his parents’ honor around Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, his dad’s birthday and in honor of Hezzy and Celia’s 69th wedding anniversary, just to name a few.
“I didn’t know Hezzy and Celia, but knowing Tom, they had to have been wonderful people,” said Amy Card, SBL Health Foundation Director. “It’s so incredibly kind and generous of him to honor his parents like this and at the same time, help numerous people during their battles with cancer. Funds have been used to help patients pay for items associated with their care, including radiation burn cream that’s so important to use both before and after treatment, but isn’t covered by insurance. We are so grateful to Tom for helping so many others.”
