Tom Bariether of Mattoon recently donated $1,000 to the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Foundation to support patients receiving care at the SBL Regional Cancer Center. His donation will help those unable to pay for items associated with their treatments.
“The Regional Cancer Center is a special place and it’s my privilege to make these donations in honor of my parents,” Bariether said. “We all should give back to Sarah Bush Lincoln to help others in our community. I’m proud to be able to do this while also remembering my parents’ special days.”
Bariether made the donation in honor of what would have been his mother’s 92nd birthday. His mother, Celia, received care at the SBL Regional Cancer Center. He has made multiple gifts to the cancer center in the past in honor of his parents’ wedding anniversary, their birthdays and Father’s and Mother’s Day.
When the Regional Cancer Center was built, he also made a $10,000 donation to support that campaign in honor of his parents. Bariether has also supported the Willow Breeze Hospice House Endowment.
SBL Foundation Director Amy Card said, “Tom is a strong supporter of Sarah Bush Lincoln, and his donations have made an incredible impact on so many in the community. We’re grateful for not only his continued support, but the compassion he has for helping those battling cancer.”
As more and more patients seek care at the Regional Cancer Center, gifts like Tom’s continue to be important, especially when patients are unable to work due to treatment or their illness, or have no or limited insurance, Card added.
