Peoples Bank & Trust, with branches in 13 central Illinois communities, has donated $10,000 to the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Foundation to benefit the Expanding Hope Capital Campaign. Donations to the campaign are helping to fund the $17.2 million expansion of the Regional Cancer Center.
“This region is fortunate to have a Health System the size and strength of Sarah Bush Lincoln, and that includes the cancer center there,” said Dale Boyer, Community Bank President. “The Regional Cancer Center has a highly-skilled oncology team, and we’re proud to support this endeavor. At the same time, cancer impacts us all, as we all know someone who has battled or is battling cancer. This is a way to help our customers, friends and neighbors now and into the future.”
The Regional Cancer Center opened in 1989 in the main hospital building, followed by the current, free-standing cancer center opening in 2016. It has seen substantial growth in patient volume over the years, with visits in the last five years doubling in part due to an aging population, younger patients being diagnosed with cancer and SBL’s growing capture of patients across the region. Construction on the 15,000 square-foot expansion began in late March, with phase one to be complete in May 2027. The second phase will begin at that time.
“This generous gift is just another exceptional way that Peoples Bank & Trust supports residents in the communities it serves,” said Sean Fischer, Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer, Sarah Bush Lincoln. “Peoples Bank was founded 75 years ago and today, continues living its ‘people-first’ heritage and supporting community growth. We’re so grateful to the Peoples Bank team for this wonderful donation.”
